Toulouse as the pink city built of clay, because its floodplain gave it no stone — and the rest of its history follows the same logic: a fortune built on a fermented weed, a canal dug on one man's daughters' dowries, a university imposed as a term of surrender, and a siege ended by a stone the chronicle says was thrown by women.

Style

Fast Occitan folk at 172 BPM laced with baroque strings and bebop horns — hurdy gurdy, bagpipe and bowed violin over three-hole flute, struck string drum and frame drum, upright bass in a bebop feel, and muted trumpet and tenor sax breaks against string-quartet-and-harpsichord counterpoint — sung by alternating male and female leads in a thick far-southern French accent, unison only on the shouted chorus.
